Global Stock Data

A full-stack data skill for US markets, with Hong Kong coverage. One SKILL.md file with 13 layers, 30+ endpoints and 11 sources: the official CBOE options chain with Greeks and 0DTE, FINRA market-wide short volume, the SEC filing stream and a market-wide screener, the Treasury yield curve and CFTC positioning reports, plus US and Hong Kong quotes and financials. Every source is labelled, from its own terms, with whether commercial use is allowed.

For Investors and developers who need US options, short volume, filings and financials, and who care whether a data source allows commercial use.

Requires Python 3.9+ and only the requests package, with no API keys. Before using SEC data, set SEC_CONTACT in SKILL.md to your real name and email, because the SEC requires a declared User-Agent. Yahoo and the SEC are overseas and may be unreliable on a direct connection from mainland China. Full endpoint list and FAQ in the README ↗

Install

Three steps into Claude Code.

The skill loads when a question needs its data. For Codex, put the contents of SKILL.md into your system prompt or project context file; the embedded Python runs as is.

mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/global-stock-datacurl -o ~/.claude/skills/global-stock-data/SKILL.md https://raw.githubusercontent.com/simonlin1212/global-stock-data/main/SKILL.mdpip install requests# Before using SEC data, set SEC_CONTACT in SKILL.md to your name and email→ Open Claude Code and ask: check AAPL's financials

Then ask your agent

  • “Show NVDA's 0DTE options flow, unusual activity”
  • “TSLA's short volume ratio trend this week”
  • “Any Form 4 insider filings today for my watchlist”
  • “Which companies first mentioned 'HBM4' in an 8-K”
  • “Rank all filers by R&D expense for CY2025Q1”
  • “What's the 10Y-2Y Treasury spread right now”

Coverage

Thirteen layers, official sources first.

01

Quotes

US and Hong Kong real-time quotes with 25 to 78 fields. Sources: Sina, Tencent, Eastmoney.

02

K-lines

Daily, weekly, monthly and minute bars, with US history back to 1984. Sources: Sina, Yahoo.

03

Technical indicators

MA, EMA, MACD, RSI, KDJ and Bollinger Bands, computed locally in pure Python.

04

Fundamentals

Eastmoney statements and key metrics (49 US and 75 Hong Kong fields), 23 Yahoo modules and 503 GAAP metrics from SEC XBRL.

05

Fund flow

Daily main, large, medium and small order flow from Eastmoney.

06

Options (Yahoo)

US options chains for every expiry, without Greeks, as a fallback to CBOE.

07

SEC filings

10-K, 10-Q and 8-K lists with structured XBRL financials.

08

Tools

Search in Chinese and English, full-market lists (5,925+ US and 18,000+ Hong Kong symbols), news by ticker and ticker-to-CIK lookup.

09

CBOE options

The official full chain with implied volatility and five Greeks, 0DTE filtering and unusual-flow detection.

10

Short volume

FINRA Reg SHO market-wide daily short volume (12,112 symbols in testing), per-symbol series and ratio ranking.

11

Filing stream

The EDGAR daily index for same-day Form 4, 8-K, 13F and 144 filings, plus full-text search of filings since 2001.

12

Market screener

EDGAR frames: any XBRL metric across the whole market in one call, a free screener.

13

Macro and calendar

The Treasury yield curve (1 month to 30 years), CFTC COT reports and the Nasdaq earnings calendar.

Sources

Every source is graded for commercial use.

Tier S · commercial use and redistribution
SEC EDGAR, the US Treasury and CFTC. The SEC allows 10 requests per second with a declared User-Agent; the skill caps itself at 8.
Tier B · verify before commercial use
FINRA. The files are published for download, but the terms prohibit scraping tools and state non-commercial use; no redistribution.
Tier C · personal research only
CBOE, Nasdaq, Yahoo, Eastmoney, Sina and Tencent. CBOE requires approval in advance and a license agreement, Yahoo states personal use only, and Nasdaq's terms have not been verified.
Excluded · HKEX shareholding
HKEX CCASS terms prohibit robots and scrapers whether or not for gain. A working Hong Kong shareholding layer was removed for that reason, and the skill ships no scraper for it.

Tiers come from each source's terms of service as read on 24 July 2026. For commercial use, rely only on tier S sources.

Current release

What exists today

  1. 01v2.0.3 was released on 26 July 2026 with three data correctness fixes: Tencent US and Hong Kong quote fields, balance-sheet items in the market screener and parsing of adjusted CBOE contracts
  2. 02Official sources first since v2.0: CBOE options, FINRA short volume, the SEC filing stream and screener, the US Treasury and CFTC
  3. 03No data and failures are handled separately: missing data can fall back, while configuration errors, rate limits and network faults raise errors
  4. 04Every request goes over direct HTTP with a built-in thread-safe rate limiter
  5. 05Only the requests package, no API keys, open source under Apache 2.0

Known limits

Gaps in this version

  • The options layers cover US stocks only; Hong Kong options are outside Yahoo's coverage and need HKEX's paid feed
  • Tier C sources are for personal research only, and FINRA data needs your own terms check before commercial use
  • The Nasdaq earnings calendar terms have not been verified
  • Yahoo and the SEC are overseas and may be unreliable from mainland China; use a proxy or the Eastmoney, Sina and Tencent sources

Boundary

What it will not do

  • Ships code, not data: it fetches from each source directly, never through our servers
  • Each data source's own terms apply to your use
  • No stock picks, no price predictions and no trade timing
  • A data access tool only, not investment advice
